Una Noche de La Gloria - Contemporary Art in the
Cultural Zone
A
native of San Antonio, Texas, Richard Sanchez grew up on
the Southside and graduated from Harlandale High School.
In 1987 Sanchez moved to New York City to pursue
opportunities with Supermarketing, Inc. of Irvine,
California as a Field Manager promoting General Mills
Cereal Products in New York and New Jersey.
Sanchez returned to San Antonio after successfully
completing his contract with Supermarketing, Inc. but
shortly thereafter returned to New York City to reenter the merchandising industry with
Dewynters Advertising of London, which led to a
managing opportunity merchandising products with the
national tours of the Broadway plays Les
Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and Miss Saigon. Drawn to the logistics of theater and
film, Sanchez moved into the film and theater
production aspects of the industry and joined the
Theatrical Teamsters - Local 817, where he worked on
television sets for The Sopranos, Third Watch, Law and
Order, Law and Order - Special Victims Unit, Sex and the
City, NYPD Blue, MTV's - Real Life Battery Park, and motion picture films Vanilla Sky,
Lazarus and the Hurricane, , King of the Jungle, Little Nicky, Big Daddy, Don't Say a Word,
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and Flawless
amongst others. Richard Sanchez has served as a
Crew Member for the Tribeca Film Festival.
As with the many New Yorkers of 2001, Sanchez' life was
dramatically affected by the World Trade Center tragedy
of 9/11 . Not succumbing to despair, he
immediately joined the volunteer relief effort giving
numerous hours to render assistance as a rescue worker
under Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Michael R. Bloomberg's
Office of Emergency Management at "Ground Zero".
Sanchez returned
to San Antonio, Texas in 2004 to care for his ailing
parents. He has since joined the Contemporary Art
and Literature Organization and serves as Logistics Captain for Una Noche de La Gloria -
Contemporary Art in the Cultural Zone. |
