UNA
NOCHE DE LA GLORIA - CONTEMPORARY ART IN THE CULTURAL
ZONE
SATURDAY,
OCTOBER 9, 2010 - 6:00PM to Midnight
The Contemporary Art and Literature Organization (CALO)
enjoys welcoming you to the Second Annual “Una Noche de
La Gloria - Contemporary Art in the Cultural Zone”
taking place this fall arts season in San Antonio’s
historic Guadalupe Arts District. “La Gloria” is an
ambitious professional development and economic stimulus
strategy for artists and performers which strive to
foster the collecting of local and regionally produced
fine art via an exposition environment and the discovery
of contemporary performance artists via music, film, and
literature. And through the La Gloria community
building effort CALO commits to uplifting the image of
the extended Cultural Zone in the near-Westside of San
Antonio by projecting a positive image for neighborhood
and commercial revitalization efforts.
Organized by the Contemporary Art and Literature
Organization (CALO) and co-sponsored by City Council
District 5, “Una Noche de La Gloria” is an outgrowth of
cultural evolution harnessed to promote the undercurrent
markets of San Antonio’s Xicano and Latino creative
communities. And while the main focus of CALO is to
serve creative individuals, La Gloria celebrates the
legacy's of “senior” master artists and provides
aspiring young artists an opportunity to participate
amongst their peers, thereby bridging the generation gap
and pro-actively passing down values that have sustained
local artists for generations. La Gloria is far
reaching. Recognizing that times are tough all
over, the hardest hit by today’s economic stress is our
artist community – many of them self-employed. CALO
seeks to help creative individuals sustain the
connection between artists and the City. CALO believes
that together we can secure the bridge between our
artists, our citizens, and our visitors encouraging
continued self-sufficiency while simultaneously
investing in a healthy and prosperous creative economy
that strengthens all of San Antonio. |
